Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced freelancer or consultant with deep expertise in performance tuning for Apache Web Server and/or MySQL running on Linux virtual machines (VMs). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of optimizing and fine-tuning these systems to achieve high performance, scalability, and stability.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze the current performance of Apache Web Server and/or MySQL databases on our Linux VMs.
Identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement in server configuration and system resource allocation.
Implement best practices for performance tuning, including optimizing server settings, database configuration, caching strategies, and resource utilization.
Focus on tuning MySQL server configurations (e.g., buffer pools, caching mechanisms, memory allocation) to maximize the performance of the database engine itself, rather than query or application-level optimization.
Conduct thorough testing and validation to ensure optimal performance under various load conditions.
Provide detailed documentation of the changes made, including recommendations for future maintenance.
Required Skills and Experience:
Extensive experience with Apache Web Server: In-depth knowledge of configuring and optimizing Apache for high-traffic environments, including modules, connection handling, and memory management.
Expertise in MySQL Server Tuning: Strong proficiency in configuring MySQL settings to maximize performance, including memory allocation (e.g., InnoDB buffer pool), cache sizes, and I/O settings. Experience in using tools like MySQLTuner and tuning MySQL parameters to fully utilize server resources.
Linux Proficiency: Solid experience with Linux (preferably in a VM environment), including system performance monitoring, resource management, and troubleshooting.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on diagnosing and resolving complex performance issues.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document changes and provide recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a similar role within a high-traffic web environment.
Familiarity with cloud-based VM environments.
Knowledge of other web servers (e.g., Nginx) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) is a plus.
Project Timeline:
The initial assessment and tuning work should be completed within the next 4-6 weeks.
